Secure Immaturity Music Mixes #3: “Heavy Metal Thunder”

Published by Will at 3:05 am under Music

For the month of January and February I have decided to give up on modern day music. When I was in high school I listened to all the same music my dad listened to when HE was in high school and college. Skynyrd. Steppenwolf. Floyd. Hendrix. etc. The music was so simple and pure. It never let you down. It always seemed like the musicians were putting out a quality song on each track to equal a quality record.

As I moved on to different music I noticed this trend did not survive. It seemed bands just built a library around a few hits and didn’t focus on a complete, tight album. Music started to mix together and sound the same. Rap and hip-hop lost its edge; nu-metal and rock seemed either vulgar for vulgar sake or plain neutered. With the exception of a few bands stretching their wings a bit throughout the years it seems music has just. . .sucked.

So, for these next two months I have decided to enjoy the simplicity and joy of classic rock. And to start I made a CD track list of some well known favorites to get me through the short hauls to work. Some of the songs are by classic rock artists past the ‘classic rock’ time period but in general these are the figureheads of classic rock doing what they did best: simply rock. This playlist has had some renovations over the month so the total CD time might be over the space required on a standard CD. The playlist can be switched back and forth between your choice of legendary and popular classic rock tracks but, to me, the list survives on track 1 and 18. Track 1 introduces the title of the playlist and represents the ultimate example of American rock. The last song is the greatest rock song ever written and is the best way to end a rocking good time.
